How to import your Goodreads library
Goodreads exports your whole library as a single CSV, one row per book. What decides where each one lands in JoyHob is its shelf: read, currently-reading or to-read.
Where the download is
In Goodreads: My Books → Import and export → Export Library. It is not instant — the file is built in the background and a download link appears on that same page after a while. Refresh if you do not see it.
Three steps
- Request your exportOn the Goodreads import and export page, hit Export Library and wait for the download link to appear.
- Check what is insideDrop it on the JoyHob inspector to see the columns and how many books it holds. No account, and the file never leaves your browser.
- Import itIn JoyHob, Import content, pick Goodreads and drop the CSV. You review every match before anything is saved.
What comes back
- Your read books, with their date and your rating.
- What you are reading right now: the currently-reading shelf opens an active read in JoyHob rather than a plain bookmark, and the book shows up in your pending content.
- Your to-read shelf, which lands in Bookmarks.
- The ISBN, which is what lets JoyHob match the exact edition instead of guessing from the title.
What does not come back, and why
- A rating on a book you have not read is lost. Goodreads lets you rate something still on your to-read shelf, but a JoyHob bookmark has no rating. The import summary tells you how many were dropped.
- For current reads, there is no progress. Goodreads says you are reading it, not how far in you are or how many chapters it has: JoyHob asks you when you open the book.
- The "(Series, #1)" suffix is stripped before searching, or almost no book in a series would find its entry.
- Your reviews and custom shelves are not imported.
About your file
If you use the inspector to see what your CSV contains before importing, the file is processed in your browser and never uploaded to any server. No account needed for that.
